Vascular Surgery
Vascular surgeons care for patients with diseases affecting the arteries and veins. At Allied Surgical Group, our surgeons use advanced diagnostic and treatment options to restore you to good health as quickly as possible. They are trained to address a variety of vascular issues, including:
Vein Disorders and Varicose Veins
The Allied Surgical Group office includes a fully equipped vascular lab on the premises.
The most common problem vascular surgeons treat is atherosclerosis, commonly called “hardening of the arteries.” The condition affects virtually every artery within the body and can have serious consequences, including heart disease and stroke.
Atherosclerosis in the aorta is particularly serious. The aorta is the main highway for blood exiting the heart – blood travels through the aorta before being distributed to the rest of the body. A weakness here caused by atherosclerosis can form an aneurysm, a potentially life-threatening weakening of the aortic wall. The vascular surgeon can repair the aorta to restore normal blood flow and reduce the aneurysm risk.
Atherosclerosis can cause circulation problems in different parts of the body. Our surgeons are trained and experienced to isolate and repair a variety of vascular problems, including:
1. Leg pain caused by blood vessel problems
2. Stroke risk caused by impaired circulation to the brain
3. Foot and leg ulcers
4. Vascular complications of diabetes
5. Aneurysms
Vein Disorders and Varicose Vein Treatment
Vein disorders can be painful and unsightly. Many of these problems can be corrected surgically, including:
· Varicose veins
· Spider veins
· Venous leg ulcers
· Venous insufficiency
· Phlebitis
Although varicose veins are not life threatening, they are a source of pain and a cosmetic nuisance. If left untreated, varicose veins can continue to enlarge and may be complicated by blood clots. The vascular surgeons at Allied Surgical Group use microphlebectomy (small-incision vein removal) and injection therapy for selected patients to remove varicose veins and make your legs look and feel beautiful.
Carotid artery disease affects the vessels in the neck, which provide critical blood flow to the head and brain. Depending on the severity and other medical factors, the highly skilled surgeons at Allied Surgical Group employ a variety of strategies and techniques, including catheterization and surgery. The goal is to restore blood flow and reduce the risk of stroke.
Our on-site vascular lab uses ultrasound and Doppler technology to evaluate venous and arterial problems. These procedures are totally painless and noninvasive, and are designed to accurately locate blood vessel problems and provide your doctors with specific intelligence about the size, severity and other characteristics of the problem – so they can make informed decisions about treatment.
