Aaron Chevinsky, M.D., F.A.C.S.

Born and raised in New York City, Dr. Aaron Chevinsky attended the City College of New York and went to medical school at the State University of New York at Stony Brook School of Medicine, graduating in 1983. He went on to a surgical residency at Stony Brook University Hospital and did his surgical oncology fellowship at the Ohio State University Hospital and the Arthur James Cancer Center between 1988 and 1990.

Dr. Chevinsky's awards and honors include being a magna cum laude graduate of the City College of New York. He is also a Fellow of the Herbert Block Memorial Fund and was honored with the American Society of Clinical Oncology Travel Award.

He is the two-time recipient of the John Alkhas Memorial Award in surgery for his work with residents and medical students, and is a member of multiple medical societies, including the Robert M. Zollinger Ohio State Surgical Society, the Society of Critical Care Medicine, the Morris County Medical Society and the New Jersey State Medical Society. He is also a member of the Society of Surgical Oncology, the Oncology Society of New Jersey, the American Society of Breast Diseases, the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons and the Society for Surgery of the Alimentary Tract. He is an Affiliate Member of the Cancer Institute of New Jersey

Dr. Chevinsky has served on numerous committees at Morristown Memorial Hospital, including the Surgical Pathology Review Committee, the ICU Committee, the Cancer Committee, the Cancer Center Executive Committee and the Residency Review Committee.

He is the American College of Surgeons' Cancer Liaison Physician. He was Vice Chairman of the Department of Surgery at Morristown Memorial Hospital from 1988-2002 and acting Chairman of the Department of Surgery between March 2002 and January 2003.

Currently serving as Chief of Surgical Oncology and Co-Director of the Carol G. Simon Cancer Center, as well as Director of the Gastrointestinal Cancer subgroup and the Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic Cancer group at the Carol G. Simon Cancer Center, Dr. Chevinsky helps guide the multidisciplinary care of cancer patients at the hospital. He was recently named the Associate Director of the Atlantic Health Melanoma Center and is the past Chairman of the Surgical Quality Assurance Committee at Morristown Memorial Hospital.

Dr. Chevinsky is a Clinical Professor of Surgery in the Division of Surgical Oncology of the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey and an Adjunct Clinical Professor of Surgery at The Mount Sinai School of Medicine. He has authored numerous papers in peer-reviewed journals relating to breast and colorectal cancer and melanoma, and has been involved in multiple clinical studies as both chief investigator and associate investigator.

As a national and international lecturer, he continues to share his knowledge with colleagues regarding many topics in surgical oncology. Dr. Chevinsky's practice currently involves both general surgery and surgical oncology. He has a particular focus on breast diseases; melanoma; GI tract diseases, including benign and malignant diseases of the colon and rectum; cancers of the esophagus, stomach, pancreas and liver; and the treatment of melanomas, sarcomas and other skin cancers. Treating both with open surgery and laparoscopy, he offers many innovative technologies such as radio-frequency ablation and hepatic artery pump placement for liver tumors, and he works closely with his medical oncology and radiation therapy colleagues to offer neoadjuvant therapy for cancers of the breast, esophagus, pancreas, liver and rectum. He is heavily involved in sentinel node biopsy technology and takes care of many patients with both breast cancer and malignant melanoma, and is involved in many trials of innovative therapy.

Dr. Chevinsky has been named multiple times in the guide to America's Top Surgeon's, New Jersey Monthly's Top DocsTM and the Best Doctors in AmericaTM.
